The Immigrant is an art piece that I created for my digital media class. We were tasked with this project in order to gain more familiarity with Adobe Illustrator. I then decided that I wanted to create a work that gave honor to my childhood spent in the Philippines, and the struggles that my family and I faced as immigrants to the United States.

The Immigrant is a portrait of an unknown Asian woman with a look of intensity and the colors of red, white, and blue making up her facial features. It hints at the balance between assimilating to a new culture while holding fast to maintain the one you were born with. A majority of this piece was created using the pencil and pen tools, layering, and hue adjustment.
