Items needed for a healing tattoo:
Antibacterial or unscented soap (ex. Dial Gold, Dove Unscented)
Clean paper towels
Unscented lotion (ex. Aveeno, Vaseline lotion, Lubriderm)
For traditional healing: A small bottle of Aquaphor (yes it must be the bottle)
All tattoos using Second Skin AND traditional healing:
For 2-3 weeks:
Do not scrub, pick, scratch, or peel your new tattoo.
Do not expose your new tattoo to sunlight.
Do not leave your new tattoo submerged in water . Showers are more than okay, no pools, ocean, or baths.
Avoid tight or restrictive clothing on the new tattoo.
Try to avoid movement that causes the skin where the new tattoo is to excessively bend or stretch.
Tattoos healed using Second Skin:
Keep the Second Skin on for 2-5 days for as long as the bandage has no tears or damages, and as long as your skin is not experiencing any noticeable irritation. This will keep your tattoo isolated in a sterile environment, and will allow the tattoo a faster healing process. Blood and plasma may pool inside the bandage, causing your tattoo to look blurry or like it is losing ink. This is normal. Do not exercise during this stage.
If the skin is experiencing irritation, the bandage is damaged, or you are comfortable enough within the 2-5 day time frame, take the bandage off under running warm water, and peel the bandage towards you (not away like a banana).
For the next 2 weeks, wash the tattoo 2-3 times per day with clean hands using an antibacterical soap. Use your hand to gently rub in the soap, rinse, and then pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not use a used towel.
Every time the tattoo is washed, immediately moisturize the tattoo with clean hands and a very thin layer of unscented lotion.
Follow the section above in bold for all healing tattoos.
